KELLY PENFOLD
Congratulations to Kelly Penfold for being selected as Red Dog's Athlete of the Month for September 2023.
Kelly wins this month's award for her outstanding performance at the Sunshine Coast 70.3, finishing second in her age group. Well done!
A big thank you to our sponsors for donating this month’s prizes.
1.Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?
Its only taken me about 9 years – but feels gooood none the less. I’ll have to keep some form of consistency in the next month so I can enjoy it.
2. When did you join the club?
Joined about 2014 I think... the low club fee if I’m being honest and the lunch time squads.
3. How much training do you do at the moment?
Immediately post a half? Not much. Riding 200 or so a week might run twice (3x in a race prep) and a swim or two if the sun is out for the tan.
4. What’s your favourite session and why?
Tue morning track easily the best bang for buck. I wrestle with a bunch of excuses but eventually get up and arrive about a minute late consistently – consistency is the key after all ???? love the vibe though.
5. If you were RDTT Coach for a day, what would you do?
Na I’m good thanks haha.
6. Favourite motivational quote?
I’m a real sucker for Win the Morning Win the Day.
7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie to Ironman is…
Do a half instead. Na – ride a LOT and eat everything you can stomach.
8. What’s your next event?
Sunny Coast 70.3 2024 haha ...... Raby Bay Rumble? Hopefully paired with someone who finishes the race (Paul Olds)
9. What do you do outside of training?
Watch sport, coach sport, hit the beach, drink coffee and take my dog to the park with the husband pretty much sums all of it up.
10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?
Foodwise – almond croissants ... otherwise just showing up to training and getting to be coached rather than doing the coaching feels like a guilty pleasure.
