ATHLETE OF THE MONTH – DECEMBER 2022
TONY COWAN

Congratulations to Tony Cowan for being selected as Red Dog’s Athlete of the Month for December 2022.

Tony wins this month's award for taking out his match up at the Raby Bay Rumble and the positive attitude he brings to every session. Well done!

A big thank you to our sponsors for donating this month’s prizes.

1.Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

I feel honoured.  There are many great athletes that have received this honour before me for their effort and achievements.

2. What attracted you to the club?

I joined about 6 or 7 years ago. A number of athletes I trained with in Pheonix triathlon squad had joined and the training times suited my schedule

3. How much training do you do at the moment?

I train about 5 sessions per week.

4. What’s your favourite session and why?

I like most sessions for different reasons. Each have different challenges, but most of all I like camaraderie amongst the club. There is usually someone there of your ability to keep you honest and gauge your level of effort.

 5. Who’s your ideal training partner and why?

Someone of my ability to keep me honest. I often fail to complete training sessions without someone around me.

6. Favourite motivational quote?

My surf coach once said to me "When you are not training someone else is and when you meet them, they will win." This does
n't hold true if you are not recovering from the previous training sessions, but it gets me out of bed in the mornings.

7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is…

If you do the work, you will get the results. Believe in your coach and listen to him. He is not telling you something to hear his own voice.

8. What’s your next event?

My next goal race will be Mooloolaba, but I am likely to do some lead up events.

 9. What do you do outside of training?

Working, spending time with my family and getting down to my surf club when I get some spare time.

10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?

Beer and Tequila
