ATHLETE OF THE MONTH – MAY 2022
DOUG HUGHES

Congratulations to Doug Hughes for being selected as Red Dog’s Athlete of the Month for May 2022.

Doug wins this month’s award for his commitment to training for Ironman Cairns while juggling work and family commitments. Well done!

A big thank you to our sponsors for donating this month’s prizes.

1.Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

I feel very special - I see the calibre of people who win this award, we aren’t short on talent or accomplishments! We have such a great group, everyone deserves to be the AOTM.

2. What attracted you to the club?

There are a number of reasons, the people, the support for all the different abilities & just be able to enjoy and challenge myself! The structured programs are a win too…

3. How much training do you do at the moment?

I’m doing a bit every day at the moment - which has been great for my fitness and weight loss journey.

4. What’s your favourite session and why?

It depends on the week - but in general I do tend towards swimming - our 5:15am sessions at Corinda are such a great bunch (who tell it as it is!)

 5. Who’s your ideal training partner and why?

This I think is the real strength of the club, each session there is somebody to keep you going & motivated. You all are!!

6. Favourite motivational quote?

From the famous Ang Clarke handbook - ‘if it was easy, everyone would be doing it!’  She’s always good for a positive quote!

7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is…

Consistency is key - you mightn’t see the improvement day to day, but it’s there.

8. What’s your next event?

Ironman Cairns - really looking forward to sharing the day with the other Red Dog members doing the hard yards…

9. What do you do outside of training?

I enjoy some quiet time bush walking or camping, but in general being around family & friends.

10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?

One???  It’ll have to be a cold crisp milkshake (don’t judge)…
