A big thank you to No More Knots, Active Stride, All Hose and Valves and GMN Vegie Prepi for donating this month's prizes.
1: Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?
Very surprised & humbled. It is an award I thought I would never receive as there so many great athletes at RTT.
2: What attracted you to the squad?
Trent used to coach some swimfit sessions & the lunch squad at Yeronga Pool before RTT started. It was a natural progression from there.
3: If you were Red Dog coach for the week, what would you do differently?
Umm.. Yeah... I don't actually attend that many squad sessions so this one is a little hard to answer!
4: How much training do you do at the moment?
I try to swim 4-5 times a week. My technique is so bad I have to swim that often to maintain any sort of swim fitness. I average about 130km a week on the bike & don't like to over do the running, so one 5km a run usually takes care of that.
5: Least favourite session and why?
Any run. I hate running.
6: If you had one wish, what would it be?
In triathlon: To race the big guns of my category, guys like Darren Carnell & Andrew Fuller & actually finish in front of them one day. In life: To stay happily married & to bring up my daughters to be kind, respectful, loving, caring individuals & to be the best they can be. I've enlisted Kelsey's help for the latter and she's doing a wonderful job with my little Red Pups :)
7: Favourite motivational quote?
"It's about time you stopped taking part in these races & started to compete", Trent said this to me after a race at Raby Bay two & half years ago & it totally changed my mindset & the way I go about racing.
8: What advice would you give to other Red Dogs who would like to be AOTM?
Train, train, train & train some more. Just try your best every time you get on the start line & see what happens.
9: What are your goals?
To feel like I've given my best in every race I race & to finish as high up in my category that I can. I'm doing the Sprint race at the Worlds in Edmonton in August, so I'd like to give that a fair crack. There are some other races around Australia I'd like to do, like Hamilton Island & Wollongong (where I did my first triathlon years ago), so I'll try to race those in the next couple of years.
10: Who would be your ideal training partner?
I do a bit of training with Ryan Emmerson, so he'll do. He makes me try harder on the bike than I otherwise would.
11: What do you do outside of triathlons?
I'm a stay at home dad so whatever my lovely wife Susan tells me to do! Washing, cooking, cleaning the house, running our two daughters around to wherever they have to be...
