May Athlete of the Month 2010

Reddog AOTM, how do you feel about that?
Wrapped to be considered out a squad of very talented, motivated & inspirational athletes.

What attracted you to the sport of triathlon?
Years ago when I was a ‘pure’ triathlete I would line up on the ‘women’s’ start line & know every other female in the race by name. Things were a lot more casual, cheaper (think the race fees were about $25 & you got a big bag of ‘useable’ goodies). I was attracted to the sport all those years ago as a cross training sport for my ‘real’ sport which was kayaking. I had a crazy coach (nothing’s changed there) that had us mixing our on water sessions with swim/bike/run, so when I gave the kayaking away it was a natural progression.

If you were Reddog coach for the week, what would you do differently?
Nothing, the coach is always right

How much training do you do at the moment?
Do you really want to know??? 5 swims, 4 rides, 3 gym sessions, 1 yoga, no running at the moment (injured)

Least favourite session and why?
The session I missed, because I missed it

If you had one wish, what would it be?
To have a cure for diabetes!!!!!!!

Favourite motivational quote?
Grab every opportunity that comes along to improve yourself both as a person & athlete. Don’t waste a minute ‘cause if you do, those are the minutes your competition might beat you by!!! (Robyn Saultry)

What advice would you give to other Reddogs who would like to be AOTM?
Just do what you can do & don’t whine about what you can’t, always be happy to have  great coaches that are enthusiastic, do what you’re told and smile!

What are your goals?
To be an inspiration to other diabetics & show then that you can be active and even make Reddog AOTM. I had a great open water swim season this year (thanks Trent & Tom for all those km’s) & would like to keep racing in the BIG BLUE. Would LOVE to be able to run again so I can do another tri or 2. I also want to race well in my new age group (once in a while it’s good to get older) at PAN PACs in November- swimming of course.

Who would be your ideal training partner?
Well my Husband if he ever gets some time off work! But I LOVE the Reddog group so if a group can be my training partner then you guys are it.
