December Athlete of the Month 2011 - Alison Ryan
Reddog AOTM, how do you feel about that?
It was a big surprise actually, I feel honoured to join the illustrious list.
What attracted you to the sport of triathlon?
I've always been fairly active in the three different disciplines, so it was just a matter of putting then altogether. The variety of training is fun and the healthy, outdoor lifestyle is also enjoyable.
How much training do you do at the moment?
Everyday, can't get enough.
Least favourite session and why?
I train mostly on my own so the long rides can be tough.
If you had one wish, what would it be?
To be happy, healthy and enjoy life.
Favourite motivational quote?
When not training or racing, my other hobby is collecting quotes so I have so many! But this is one of my favourites…
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed... every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter whether you are the lion or the gazelle... when the sun comes up, you'd better be running!"
What advice would you give to other Reddogs who would like to be AOTM?
Pay the coach extra?!
What are your goals?
To keep improving and having fun. Having qualified for Hawaii Ironman this year, I will be aiming for a good race there and to soak up the amazing atmosphere of the event.
Who would be your ideal training partner?
Chrissie Wellington or Craig Alexander
