ATHLETE OF THE MONTH APRIL 2022
GABBY COPP
Congratulations to Gabby Copp for being selected as Red Dog’s Athlete of the Month for April 2022.
Gabby wins this month’s award for her performance at Hell of the West and training for Ironman Cairns. Well done!
A big thank you to our sponsors for donating this month’s prizes.
1.Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?
Very surprised! Can’t help but wonder whether Ange’s (not so) subtle nomination a few Wednesday’s ago had a part to play, but in any case I’m really grateful.
2. What attracted you to the club?
Initially I began training with the swim squad and then got into the other disciplines - I was attracted to the club because of the welcoming environment, the opportunity to push yourself every session further than would be possible on my own, and the way all abilities and fitness levels are supported and encouraged.
3. How much training do you do at the moment?
I work a rotating shift roster so every day/week is different, but on average I’d say 8-10 hours on the bike per week, about 5-6 hours running and 3 or so hours in the pool.
4. What’s your favourite session and why?
Any session that isn’t post night shift.
5. Who’s your ideal training partner and why?
I enjoy all group sessions to be honest. At the moment I’m super grateful to be able to train with the other girls within the squad doing Cairns IM – the support and encouragement both during and outside of sessions makes such a big difference.
6. Favourite motivational quote?
Life begins at the edge of your comfort zone.
7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is…
Consistency pays off.
8. What’s your next event?
Cairns Ironman in June.
9. What do you do outside of training?
Work full time as a paramedic, operate a small business setting up picnics/grazing tables and spend time with family, friends and my dog Maggie.
10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?
Country music.
