ATHLETE OF THE MONTH – MAY 2021
MIKE ADDISON
Congratulations to Mike Addison for being selected as Red Dog’s Athlete of the Month for May 2021.
Mike wins this month's award for his positive attitude and commitment to Ironman training. Well done!
A big thank you to our sponsors for donating this month’s prizes.
1.Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?
Gobsmacked and a bit shocked to be honest, could only dream about it, so it was a bit of surprise when I was awarded AOTM at the RDTT track session. Mentally and physically it’s been a tough few months but the training and focus has really helped.
2. What attracted you to the club?
One week free, who doesn't like a freebie, I started swimming with the club back in 2010 (I think). I was turning into a walking heart attack so thought why not take up a sport, 3 disciplines is better than one....right?
3. How much training do you do at the moment?
I am tapering for Cairns which is a bit different given the amount of training we've been doing previously, so it’s only about one session a day.
4. What’s your favourite RDTT session and why?
Saturday Ship Inn ride, good to catch up with the team, see how everyone is going and get out of Brisbane on the longer rides.
5. If you had one wish, what would it be?
To have some sort of natural ability when it comes to triathlon.
6. Favourite motivational quote?
The pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow, for every challenge encountered there is opportunity for growth.
7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is…
Be Consistent with your training, that will help you reach your goals. Get to know the basic rules of triathlon before you race! If in doubt ask someone. “It’s my first race” or “I draft off people in training” isn’t an excuse when you’re given a penalty. ?
8.What’s your next event?
Cairns IM, this Sunday, can't wait, really pumped now. It’s been a bit of a journey to get to the start line, with lots of ups and downs, the club and its members have been a great support along the way though. Looking forward to the after party on Monday!!
9. What do you do outside of triathlons?
When I am not training for 18 months to get to an IM start line you will normally see me on the other side of the field of play with Triathlon Qld. I am a Technical Official and sometimes Race Referee, it's great way to give back to the sport and help others. I also enjoy time in front of TV with wife Kylie and Boston the dog, just got onto Netflix, Line of Duty is the go at the moment. Watching any form of Cricket, bring on the Ashes 2021....BARMY ARMY!!!
10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?
English crisps and sweets. Monster Munch, Wispa’s, Double Deckers, Lemon Bon Bons, fruit salad, wine gums, fruit pastels…..you get the gist!
11. What’s your hidden talent?
My hidden talent is that I have killer moves on the dance floor which I assure you will be on display from 1pm in the Courtyard in Carins on Monday afternoon.
