ATHLETE OF THE MONTH – FEBRUARY 2021
COURTENAY HENRYS

Congratulations to Courtenay Henrys for being selected as Red Dog’s Athlete of the Month for February 2021.

Courtenay wins this month’s award for her outstanding performance at Hell of the West. After getting a flat and changing her tyre, Courtenay showed great composure in moving past this set-back and ran herself into second place. Well done!

1. Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

Stoked! Not just because it’s taken me over 3 years at Red Dog, but because I get to join the ranks of top athletes like Tommy Heff and Dom Churchett who are also recent AOTM winners.

2. What attracted you to the club?

I’d seen Trent coaching at Valley Pool and he seemed really engaged with his athletes. I’d also seen Red Dogs at events and they seemed to have the most support and fun on course.

3. How much training do you do at the moment?

Trent might not believe it but I train 6 or 7 days a week at the moment. A mixture of my own sessions and squad when I can make it.

4. What’s your favourite RDTT session and why?

Track Tuesday! And Nebo Nightmare. Both hurt but everyone’s hurting together and (mostly) smiling at the end of it.

5. If you had one wish, what would it be?

That Smallie has a 6 pack for life.

6. Who would be your ideal training partners and why?

I’ve got two and they are super cliche. “Consistency is key” and “make it hurt”

7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is?

Show up, get involved and do as much as you can.  Before you know it you’ll have a great group of friends (and Big Cats) and your performance will pick up too.

8.What’s your next event?

Straddie salute. Except we’re really just entering for the fourth leg.

9. What do you do outside of triathlons?

Pre covid a lot of travel. These days mostly just work, nap whenever possible, and spend weekends on the Peninsula with the other locals.

10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?

I don’t feel guilty about how much chocolate I eat or my love for rosé. Should I?
