February Athlete of the Month 2011 - Brad Garlick
Reddog AOTM, how do you feel about that?
I was very surprised to receive such a prestigious award!!! It was a great feeling of accomplishment.
What attracted you to the sport of triathlon?
It was initially a bet between a few work mates about 2 years ago to enter the BRW. I enjoyed the training and racing so much that I haven't stopped since. Also I have lost heaps of weight and now I can pretty much eat whatever I want which also keeps me going.
If you were Reddog coach for the week, what would you do differently?
I would organize more Sunday Sessions….they are great fun.
How much training do you do at the moment?
I try to fit in an average of 8 sessions a week (10 to 14hours), minimum 2 of each discipline
Least favourite session and why?
Running, because it hurts.
Favourite motivational quote?
"A Grand Final was never won on a weekday".....I like to save myself for race day.
What advice would you give to other Reddogs who would like to be AOTM?
Keep at it!! You don’t need to be the best athlete but people tend to recognize your efforts.
What are your goals?
Continue to improve my times at each race and my goal is to break 2hrs and 10mins for an Olympic distance
Who would be your ideal training partner?
My ideal training partner would be someone who is stronger than me so that I can push myself harder at training.
