September Athlete of the Month 2011 - Louise Gunston

Reddog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

It feels so good to be recognized for putting in a solid effort over winter!!

What attracted you to the sport of triathlon?

I’ve grown up doing all three legs for fitness and wanted a challenge. My first race was the Nissan BRW Corporate Tri 3 years ago in a team with Brad Garlick. Brad encouraged me to join Reddogs and I can't believe I didn't join sooner!

If you were Reddog coach for the week, what would you do differently?

Throw in a brick session. I'm more likely to do one with the squad then by myself.

How much training do you do at the moment?

Not enough, but as a minimum will do 3 session of each leg a week.

Least favourite session and why?

Least favourite session is the UQ track. At the end of a "best effort" sprint I feel like I'm about to throw up.

If you had one wish, what would it be?

To run off the bike and feel amazing for the last leg of the race.

Favourite motivational quote?

If you aren’t hurting then you haven’t gone hard enough.

What advice would you give to other Reddogs who would like to be AOTM?

Make every session count by putting in your best effort.

What are your goals?

To progress to the fast kids group at track and keep up.

Who would be your ideal training partner?

A female of similar fitness to me, with more motivation and the desire to keep improving.
