ATHLETE OF THE MONTH – JANUARY 2024
BELINDA SWEENEY

Congratulations to Belinda Sweeney for being selected as Red Dog's Athlete of the Month for January 2024.

Belinda wins this month's award for her positive attitude and commitment to training while juggling a busy work schedule and family life. Well done!!!  A big thank you to our sponsors for donating this month’s prizes.

1.Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

Wow shocked and honoured - to stand in the shadows of Reddog triathlon giants that have received the AOTM before me.  Trent did tell me I was pipped at the post by Dom in prior months- watch out Dom lucky you are moving overseas as serious competition exists!

2. When did you join the club?

I used to do covert swim squad whilst training with another club - so unofficially from about 2010. Why did I join the squad-To annoy my husband Brett who was already training with Reddog ! Trent thanks for putting up with me for so long!

3. How much training do you do at the moment?

Swim 2-3 times a week and run 3 times a week .  Should be riding more as I got a new bike in October. Currently only riding once or twice a week

4. What’s your favourite session and why?

Coffee and chats - is that a session? But if we are talking about real training, swim squad with either fins or band (don't hate me but I don't mind swimming with the band).

5. Who’s your ideal training partner and why?

I have met so many awesome humans over the years who have become great  friends and we often solve the problems of the world shuffling along on long runs (the usual suspects who have been known to derail Trent's carefully thought out training sets by not listening and asking again many times what the run or swim set is ( Michelle, Alicia, Jac G ,Shelley, Eve you know who you are) .

6. Favourite motivational quote?

Tomorrow is a new day.

7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is…

Don’t get trapped at the bar with Trent doing shots at the Reddog Xmas party.  Hang in there keep turning up consistency is key. Stay in your lane just worry about what you want to achieve - comparison can be the thief of joy.

8. What’s your next event?

Training for life - but you are asking about triathlon so maybe Mooloolaba tri and entered for Noosa.

9. What do you do outside of training?

I have 2 school aged boys and my husband Brett to look after plus a very spoilt Golden Retriever.  These days I seem to spend every weekend taking the boys shuttling on their MTB’s or pretending I know how to score their cricket games!

10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?

Netflix on the windtrainer  to take away the mind-numbing boredom.
