Congratulations to Clare Smith for being selected as Red Dog's Athlete of the Month for November 2023.

Clare wins this month's award for winning the Legend's category at the Noosa Triathlon and her positive attitude to training. Well done!  A big thank you to our sponsors for donating this month’s prizes.

1.Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

Excellent, top five great life moments.

2. When did you join the club?

A small but mighty contingent of Vision athletes came over to Red Dog in 2018, and it has been a pleasure to be part of the club ever since. Since beginning triathlons in 2010 I have known some of the women Red Dog legends like Bri, Rosie and Sarah Richmond. So I was a bit star struck coming to Red Dog. 

3. How much training do you do at the moment?

Not as much as my younger years. Although I try to get through three runs, two or three swims, two (ok, more like one) cycle and a couple of strength sessions. 

4. What’s your favourite session and why?

Friday swim! Who doesn’t love 3km of band!?!?

5. Who’s your ideal training partner and why?

I have a few shout outs to make;

Steph - for providing your feet to follow through many long Friday swim sets 

Eddie, Sarah and Oskar - for being my Tuesday track pacers 

Dom and Ben - for the Thursday morning run entertainment 


6. Favourite motivational quote?

Theodore Roosevelt’s man in the arena quote.

"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is…

In this sport you will have many good days, and some not so good ones but most importantly keep showing up because you can achieve far more than you could possibly imagine. 

8. What’s your next event?

My next A race is the Noosa Tri Legends Wave in 2024. I hope to defend my title…. Bri don’t get any ideas of entering the Legends wave for at least ten years, thank you. 

 9. What do you do outside of training?

I love my work in Emergency Nursing. My hobbies also include brunch and shamelessly spoiling our dog Frankie. 

10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?

Indooroopilly Shopping Centre.
