June Athlete of the Month 2012 - Andrew Cosgrave

Reddog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

Very humbled given the talent pool that exists at Reddog. If I knew all I had to do to get AOTM is an Ironman, I would have done one 5 years ago when I started with you.

What attracted you to the sport of triathlon?

A couple of reasons – The different disciplines make keeping fit more enjoyable as there is more choice in what exercise you could do, the challenge of testing yourself &  never really having to worry about dieting – if you ask my wife she would say the Lycra

If you were Reddog coach for the week, what would you do differently?

Have more relays where the winning team members get a python each – even if it is slightly soaked in chlorine – it sure beats having to scull a Bundy & Coke at 6.30am

How much training do you do at the moment?

Not enough – 5 – 6 session along with 2 x corporate rugby sessions each week & some pilates every night. Just enjoying the less intense training sessions right now after the build up to Cairns

Least favourite session and why?

5km time trial at track – it will remain that way until I break 22mins

If you had one wish, what would it be?

To break 22mins in the 5km time trial – current PB is 22.08

Favourite motivational quote?

A couple come to mind “Pain is weakness leaving the body”, “Shut up legs” & “CAN’T– drop the T because you CAN”

What advice would you give to other Reddogs who would like to be AOTM?

Keep plugging away, enjoy every improvement you make no matter how small it may be & when you least expect it the rewards, both big & small will come your way

What are your goals?

To do more ironman races – they are addictive; to ultimately break 12 then 11 hours & maybe when I am 65 get on the podium for some race.

Who is your ideal training partner?

Geoff & Janine Wilson – Geoff pushes me on the bike whilst making it look so easy & Janine for making the ride enjoyable, fun  & for bringing me up to speed with all the Reddog gossip when we could not be bothered trying to keep up with Geoff.
