1.           Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

I was really surprised to say the least. However, I’m honoured that I can join the same honours list as Nicole Ennis and Steve Mann.

2.           What attracted you to the club?

My neighbour, Dennis Eiszele, put me onto the club after several years of training solo. Straight away, I loved the variety and challenge of the sessions and the camaraderie.

3.           How much training do you do at the moment?

6 days per week. I’m officially old, so recovery is important.  My training mirrors the weekly schedule, so I can join sessions through the week. I struggle to get past 14 hours per week due to my work.

4.           Least favourite session and why?

I don’t have a least favourite session. If there is one drill I hate, then it’s one armed drills. “What’s the point?”, I ask myself as I gasp for air.

5.           If you had one wish, what would it be?

To be a better swimmer and to be able to clip in quickly.

 6.           Favourite motivational quote?

“Pain is temporary, but the disappointment of quitting will last a lifetime, particularly if Brett Sweeney knows about it”. (Borrowed from Lance Armstrong)

7.           The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is…

Don’t compare yourself to others; don’t place limitations on yourself- listen to Trent; be consistent; get out of your comfort zone.

8.           My next race is… Noosa, as a lead in to a Hervey Bay 100.

9.         I couldn’t do what I do without… Kristine, my wife. She gets how single minded I can be about this sport. She’s happy when I’m happy.

10.       What do you do outside of triathlons?

Deputy Principal stuff and find places to eat and drink.

11.       What’s your one guilty pleasure?

I have no guilt. I love a good jam doughnut.
