Congratulations to James Foote on being selected asReddog’s Athlete of the Month for September 2013. Well done!!! 

He wins the award for finishing 6th in the M25-29 Age Group at the ITU World Sprint Championships in London.

1. Reddog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

There are some fantastic athletes who have won this before, it feels great!  Thanks very much to the sponsors!

2. What attracted you to the sport of triathlon?

I used to work with Sarah Crowley and she invited me to come down last year. I trained (very) casually until January this year when I moved on to a program. I really enjoy the culture, enthusiasm and 'extracurricular activities' that the squad has.

3. If you were Reddog coach for the week, what would you do differently?

Not much, the Redman runs a pretty tidy ship, maybe a weekend swim (coach optional!) or the odd technique (swim and or bike) session.

4. How much training do you do at the moment?

Nothing at all! I am enjoying a bit of time off at the moment. At the end of last year I was doing about 5 sessions a week and have steadily moved up to training every day with some double ups, so about 9 -10 sessions.

5. Least favourite session and why?

Not really a session but you may see me skimp a bit on lunges at Tuesday track, they sting for days.

6. If you had one wish, what would it be?

Watch the Redman do an event.  Maybe the TQ Sprint next year Trent?!

7. Favourite motivational quote?

I knew I had to throttle back on big nights out, food & grog to get the most out of training.

8. What advice would you give to other Reddogs who would like to be AOTM?

Train consistently, don't over do it and listen to your body (and your coach!).  Seems to work for me.

9. What are your goals?

 Goals for the rest of this year and 2014 are to perform well in local events and maybe step up to 70.3 distance later in 2014.

10. Who would be your ideal training partner?

I have them all now! The squad members I train with push me along - you know who you are. I think it really helps to have training partners that are around your level or slightly better to train with. Also, the more experienced members of the squad are great for advice about everything triathlon.

11. What do you do outside of triathlons? 

I have not had time for a lot lately, but away from training and work I enjoy my girlfriend's midweek gastronomy, heading up the coast and getting in the odd game of golf.

12. What's your one guilty pleasure?

Where to start...right at the moment it is Belgian beer and fox hunting with my beagle
