ATHLETE OF THE MONTH – APRIL 2021
DIRK BASS

Congratulations to Dirk Bass for being selected as Red Dog’s Athlete of the Month for April 2021.

Dirk wins this month's award for his positive attitude and commitment to Ironman training. Well done!

A big thank you to our sponsors for donating this month’s prizes.

1.Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

There are so many good athletes in the squad I thought this will not be an accolade I will receive. So I am very happy with this.

2. What attracted you to the club?

I saw the dedication of the squad at the Valley lunch swims, I wanted to improve my swimming so decided to join Red Dog.

3. How much training do you do at the moment?

I do what ever is on my program no more and no less, I think that is about 15 hours a week for Ironman.

4. What’s your favourite RDTT session and why?

Tuesday morning track, I am not sure why but I am always happy at track even when hurting.

5. If you had one wish, what would it be?

Besides having enough cash not to have to work again. I wish I had lungs big enough to make Mt Cootha easy.

6. Favourite motivational quote?

“Do or do not. There is no try” Yoda. It is a bit corny but very true.

7. The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is…

Hang in there after 6 months you start to really enjoy the training.

8.What’s your next event?

I am doing Morton Bay long course then, Cairns Ironman this will be my first Ironman

9. What do you do outside of triathlons?

While doing IM training not much else fits in. I am trying my hand at brewing beer and I like making bread.

10. What’s your one guilty pleasure?

Eating salt and vinegar chips, washing them down with beer while watching GCN.
