ATHLETE OF THE MONTH – JUNE 2016

 AOTM SaraMoser

Congratulations to Sara Moser, AOTM for June 2016. Well done!!!

Sara takes out this month's award for finishing 4th in F45-49 age group at Cairns 70.3 and qualifying for the 70.3 World Championships on the Sunshine Coast.

A big thank you to Shoes Feet Gear, No More Knots, RHP Physiotherapy and Go Gecko for donating this month’s prizes.

1.           Red Dog AOTM, how do you feel about that?

Shocked is my general feeling for this month - from my result at Cairns (my first 70.3) to qualifying for Worlds and then Red Dog AOTM.  In a club of so many awesome athletes, it's sometimes hard to feel like you deserve it!

2.           What attracted you to the club?

Trent had been coaching some of the Swimfit sessions at Yeronga and I had always had an interest in triathlons since high school when some of my friends tried to convince me to do one.  I thought that time had passed me by, but after having twins I needed something for me and it seemed like the right time.  I had enjoyed Trent's swim coaching and so Red Dog seemed like the obvious choice.

3.           How much training do you do at the moment?

3 to 4 rides, about 3 swims (try to add in extra before the session starts) and 2 runs (have been dealing with running injuries).

4.           Least favourite session and why?

St Peters loops on the bike.  Not sure why but have never liked it!  Murarrie on a cold dark morning by myself is also not my favourite!

5.           If you had one wish, what would it be?

Hard to limit to one ..... at the moment, maybe it would be to have the body of a 20 year old with the knowledge/wisdom of being 45!

6.           Favourite motivational quote?

'Dream more than others think is reasonable, and you will be more than others think is possible' This was on a birthday card from my mum and dad when I was young.  I just had it put on a bracelet I had made last week.

7.           The one bit of advice I’d give to a newbie is… use all that knowledge and advice you have access to when you are surrounded by so many great athletes.  And practice all those little skills you need ..... transitions, nutrition, grabbing bottles from aid stations etc

 8.           My next race is… Mooloolaba 70.3 World Champs in Sept.

9.           I couldn’t do what I do without… My husband who is happy to take care of our 4 year old twins while I chase my dreams.

10.       What do you do outside of triathlons?

In the past - anything outdoor like camping, hang gliding, kayaking along with ballroom dancing.  Now - don't have time for anything except training, work and kids!!  Luckily, with a Swedish husband there is always a reason to travel.

11.       What’s your one guilty pleasure?

Cup of tea and a biscuit - or anything sweet involving custard (think trifle, vanilla slice etc).

12.       Any advice on how to avoid divorce while training for Ironman?

Lots of very early mornings and a very patient husband.  The key is having everything organised and ready to go the night before so there is no thought involved when the alarm goes off.
